Mashhad will host the second regional meeting of provincial diplomacy

The head of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs representative office in the country’s northeast said: The regional meeting of provincial diplomacy will be held on October 21 and 22 in Mashhad, with the aim of introducing the capacities and capabilities of the northeastern provinces, in the presence of national officials.

Ahmad Masoumifar, head of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs representative office in the country’s northeast, stated in a press conference: Mashhad will host a major regional event titled the “Second Regional Meeting of Provincial Diplomacy” this weekend.

One of the priorities of Iran’s foreign policy is the neighborhood policy, which can be considered the cornerstone of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s foreign policy doctrine. The country’s unique geostrategic and geo-economic position has made this form of diplomacy particularly important.

Indeed, Iran possesses a remarkable geopolitical landscape with 16 border provinces, sharing frontiers with 15 neighboring countries through both land and sea borders. This places Iran among the few nations globally with such an extensive number of contiguous neighbors and multimodal connections.

The opening ceremony will be held on October 21 and will be attended by one of the heads of the three branches of government, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, as well as minister-level officials such as the Governor of the Central Bank.

During this two-day program, four specialized sessions are scheduled: two sessions on Wednesday morning and two sessions on Thursday morning. The closing ceremony will be held on Thursday afternoon, featuring reports from the sessions and the reading of the final statement.

The specialized sessions designed for this conference focus on regional economic cooperation and include:

A session on diplomacy in pilgrimage, health, and nature tourism

A session on trade, investment, and free zones

A session on linking the national and regional economy through new technology and knowledge-based enterprises

A session on neighborhood policy and the development of transportation infrastructure, transit, customs, and energy

The objective of these sessions is for both the public and private sectors to identify the most significant capacities for developing economic and commercial cooperation between border provinces and neighboring countries, and to discuss opportunities and challenges in order to reach concrete conclusions. We are not merely interested in holding a conference; all officials emphasize that the meeting must yield practical and actionable outcomes.
